Trip to the Beach

Last weekend we went to the beach! It was about a two-hour bus ride to the west coast, so we decided to make a whole weekend of it.

Gotta love the cheesy florescent palm trees in front of our hotel.

After finding a place to stay, we hit the beach. It's been so hot here (over 30 degrees and humid), that it was great to just lie on a beach and swim in the ocean (or Yellow Sea to be exact).

By the time we left the beach that afternoon, the tide came in so much we had almost run out of beach to lie on!

That evening, the tide was on its way out, and the beach became really wide. There was such a huge difference between high and low tide.

The nearby streets were lined with seafood restaurants, and they all had fish tanks just outside on the sidewalk that were full of various shellfish, squid, large fish and some even had small sharks.

We came back to the beach later to watch the sunrise and saw this plane flying very low.

After dark, the parties started, and everybody was setting off fireworks. There were numerous vendors around selling fireworks.

The next day was rather cloudy, so we just walked around and explored the beach more. We concluded that each of these groups of umbrellas amongst the rocks in this picture is actually a little restaurant! I'm pretty sure the menu was limited to shellfish. It was quite interesting!

We also saw a horse on the beach.

This beach is famous for its mud. They even have a Mud Festival every summer! Just off the beach, there is a mud spa, and they sell some mud products as well. Of course I wanted to try it, so Jordan bought me a mud pack! I haven't tried it yet.

Waterfall

I'm getting a little behind in my updating again, so before I post about this past weekend, I will backtrack to the weekend before last when we went hiking at the nearby national park to see a waterfall.

I had a bit of difficulty keeping up because Jordan kept running up the rocks.

The closer we got to the waterfall, the steeper the trail got.

But we finally made it.

And here is the waterfall!

Jordan decided to make his own waterfall from his water bottle.

He said he sweat more water walking to the falls than was actually in the waterfall!

For the Guys

On Saturday, Jordan and I went to visit the National Cemetery. Here are some of the things we saw.

Does this remind anyone of a certain tv show?

One of the tanks was still occupied.

There were rows and rows of identical gravestones.

More Soccer

Last Wednesday was a holiday, so we were able to go to another soccer game. This time it was Korea's national team playing the UAE, so it was a pretty big deal. And the place was nearly packed, unlike the last game we went to. Apparently there were around 40,000 people there, even though it was raining the whole time. Many people were sporting those fashionable garbage bag jackets.

Korea won!

Night at the Movies

It's Saturday night in Korea, and we just got back from seeing Shrek the Third. I don't care what anybody says, I love Shrek! Maybe not as good as the first two, but I still thought it was quite funny. Through most of the movie though, we were the only two people laughing in the whole theatre! Obviously the cultural (and fairy tale) references which make up the bulk of the movie kind of got lost in translation. But we thought it was funny!

Our New Oven

We got an oven! And I've already made brownies.

  1. Oven CHECK
  2. Dryer
  3. Bathtub

Edited to add:
It has been brought to my attention that I neglected to state who was actually responsible for acquiring the oven. So, to give credit where credit is due, it was Jordan who found it, went to get it, paid for it, carried it home, and made supper in it. And to be perfectly honest, he will probably use it more than I will!
